Warriors can't hold on against Mount St. Mary's
NORTH ANDOVER — Malik Jefferson registered 16 points, nine rebounds, and three blocks as Mount St. Mary's beat Merrimack 57-50 on Monday afternoon at Hammel Court.
Deandre Thomas had six rebounds for Mount St. Mary's (6-10, 2-2 Northeast Conference).
Jordan Minor had 15 points and seven rebounds for the Warriors (8-10, 3-2). Malik Edmead added 12 points and nine rebounds, Mikey Watkins had 11 points, and Ziggy Reid had a career-high 13 rebounds plus 10 points.
Merrimack led by as many as nine points in the first half. Mount St. Mary’s closed out the first half on a 15-5 run over the final 6:18 to head into the break with a one-point lead.
The Warriors shot 50 percent in the first half (10 for 20).
Every Merrimack starter played at least 32 minutes. Reid led the team with 38 minutes.
After trading the lead in the second half, the Warriors last led with 8:40 to play before Mount St. Mary’s went on a 12-4 run to close out the game.
GAME NOTES: Minor's 15 points mark the eighth time that he has scored 15 or more in a game this season. … The Warriors outrebounded the Mountaineers 37-31. It marked the first time the Warriors outrebounded an opponent since Nov. 23 against Hartford. … Merrimack fell to 1-4 all-time against Mount St. Mary’s. The Mountaineers have won four games in a row in the series.
