Warriors rack up regular-season MAAC awards
Kevair Kennedy was named Player and Rookie of the Year
The Merrimack men’s basketball team departs for Atlantic City on Friday for the MAAC Tournament, but the Warriors had plenty to celebrate before packing their bags. Wednesday brought a haul of conference honors for the program.
Freshman Kevair Kennedy headlined the awards, earning both MAAC Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year. Head coach Joe Gallo was named MAAC Coach of the Year, while KC Ugwuakazi took home Defensive Player of the Year honors.
On the women’s side, head coach Kelly Morrone was also recognized as MAAC Coach of the Year.
Kennedy’s sweep of Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year marks the first time in MAAC history that a player has captured both awards in the same season. He was also a unanimous First Team All-MAAC selection.
Ernest Shelton joined Kennedy as a First Team All-MAAC honoree, while Ugwuakazi also earned a spot on the All-Defensive Team.
