Warriors score wire-to-wire win over Fairfield
The Merrimack men’s basketball team completed a weekend road sweep in the MAAC with a 75-54 win over Fairfield on Saturday night. The Warriors began the weekend with a Thursday night win over St. Peter’s.
Merrimack was led by Matt Becht, who scored 22 points and went 6 for 12 from 3-point range. Budd Clark had a double-double, posting 20 points and 12 assists.
Other notables for the Warriors included Devon Savage (14 points) and Bryan Etumnu (12 rebounds and 3 blocks).
The Warriors shot 45 percent from three (13 for 29), led by Becht and Savage (4 for 8). All five of Merrimack’s starters played at least 32 minutes, with Clark playing 37 minutes and Savage and Etumnu checking in with 36 minutes.
The Warriors took the lead 42 seconds into the game and never trailed.
Merrimack improved to 11-9 overall and 8-1 in the MAAC; the Warriors are in a three-way tie for first place with Marist and Quinnipiac.
The Warriors return home on Friday for a matchup against Mount St. Mary’s. Next Sunday, they’ll travel to take on Rider.
