Warriors start second half with a wire-to-wire win at Sacred Heart
Ernest Shelton led the Warriors with 19 points
The Warriors improved to 3-0 in MAAC play with an 80-72 win over Sacred Heart on Monday afternoon.
Merrimack set the tone early, jumping out to a 10-2 start and never relinquishing the lead. The Warriors pushed their advantage to as many as 13 points and controlled the game throughout.
Ernest Shelton paced Merrimack with 19 points, while Kevair Kennedy dished out seven assists and KC Ugwuakazi pulled down nine rebounds.
Shelton led all scorers, but the offense was balanced, with four Warriors finishing in double figures. Kennedy scored 18 points, Tye Dorset added 16, and Andres Marrero chipped in 14. Ugwuakazi finished with seven points and nine rebounds in 18 minutes of action.
The win moved Merrimack back to .500, improving the Warriors to 7-7 on the season.
The Warriors will host Mount St. Mary’s on Friday afternoon for a 3 p.m. tip at Lawler Arena.
Making it rain from beyond the arc
Merrimack leaned heavily on the three-point shot, connecting at a 40 percent clip (12-for-30). More than half of the Warriors’ field-goal attempts — 30 of 54 — came from beyond the arc.
The production was heavily tilted to one side of the floor, as Merrimack knocked down 11 of 21 three-point attempts from the left side, compared to just 1-for-9 from the right.
