Merrimack junior defenseman Zach Bookman entered the transfer portal on Sunday.
Bookman appeared in 33 games for the Warriors this season and was tied for second on the team with 17 points (3g-14a). He finishes his Merrimack career with 102 games played and 61 points (11g-50a).
Per sources, there’s at least one NCHC school in pursuit.
Bookman became the 10th player to enter the portal on Sunday (the first day the transfer window opened). Merrimack announced two weeks ago that it would opt into the House v. NCAA settlement, which requires schools to adhere to roster caps. The roster cap in men’s hockey next season will be 26 players. The Warriors carried 30 players on their roster this past season.
The first 9 in the portal were not significantly impactful players. This one hurts. 2 years in a row losing their best defenseman. Here’s hoping that their highly ranked recruiting class pans out.
Maybe by the time the portal closes, everyone on the current team will have entered! LOL- funny not funny🙃
