Or ... maybe Del Gaizo his his own man into Borgiel.

Expand full comment
author

I think MC's headed to the PP as someone nailed Borgiel

Murray fails to cover a puck, but officials blow it dead anyway

Back to 5v5. 9:00 left.

That's the first time I've seen it called in a game.

Expand full comment
author

"If a second violation by the same team occurs during the same faceoff, a two-minute bench minor penalty for delay of game will be called."

Expand full comment
author

The faceoff infraction is a new rule.

UMass back to the PP. Walsh called for a faceoff infraction.

10:56 to play.

Back even.

There was digging at Murray but there has been digging at both goalies all night with no whistles. And, it wasn't after the whistle.

Expand full comment
author

Drevitch now off for a slash ... after what's been allowed all night, I can't believe that's the one they decide to call.

Expand full comment
author

That's a big goal at a big time for Drevitch, who had been held out of the goal column through six games. Big way to break out of a funk.

Logan Drevitch's goal.

2:59 left. Merrimack back to the PP.

3:37 left in the 2nd period, still 1-0 UMass.

Expand full comment

Merrimack gets the kill. Very good PK there.

Expand full comment
author

Kimens off. MC going on the PK with 6:39 left in the second.

Expand full comment
author

And just like last week, the first period was a free-for-all and then the second period, every ounce of contact is whistled.

Expand full comment
author

Merrimack immediately back on the PP. Del Gaizo off.

Expand full comment
author

10 seconds left on the PP for MC

Expand full comment

Merrimack going on the PP early in the second period.

UMass headed to the PP. Jandric off for boarding.

Matching minors.

Punches thrown at another whistle ... the officials have allowed that stuff all period. No wonder it gets out of hand.

Expand full comment
author

Kessel just held on to Walsh's stick for a good 5 seconds. Right in front of Rouillard. Again, looks like a free-for-all tonight. I have no idea how you don't call that one.

Camera work not so great!

This has been an incredibly exciting opening 14 minutes.

Expand full comment

Gorgeous play by Durflinger but Murray shuts the door.

Expand full comment

It appears the officials are going to allow this game to be a free-for-all. I'm fine with it. But it started this way last week against BU as well and then all of a sudden in the second period it seemed the officials' standards changed.

Another very good shift from the Copponi line. They caused a turnover on the forecheck and Copponi created a scoring chance curling off the wall. It's been 12 minutes but Kimens-Copponi-Nolan has been MC's best line thus far.

That's a puck I think Merrimack needs to clear. It sat in a scrum and the Warriors had a lot of whacks at it, but they weren't able to get it out of a dangerous area and it ultimately landed on Bobby Trivigno's stick. That's the wrong guy to have it end up with.
