Final: UNH beats Merrimack 3-1.

Goal stands. At least it was a quick challenge.

Mike McMahon's avatar

UNH is going to challenge the goal lol. OK.

Mike McMahon's avatar

Well, the shutout is broken. Ty Daneault scores with 2.6 left. 3-1.

Mike McMahon's avatar

This matches their longest losing streak since 2020-21. That streak was during the COVID year. Dec. 12, 2020 through Jan. 17, 2021.

Merrimack about to fall to 1-7 in their last 8 games and their losing streak will extend to six games.

That might have been the worst goal of the night, honestly. JP Turner shot the middle while his teammate had the loose puck in the corner.

UNH ENG: 3-0 Wildcats. 2:13 left.

Ollas out with 3:00 to play.

He's pulled with the right time on the clock. I'm a firm believe in 2:00 for 1 goal, and then tack on another 1:00 for every additional goal you're trailing.

Mike McMahon's avatar

Bigger story tonight -- to me -- is the zero goals. That's a component of the guys they're missing. They're missing key components.

Mike McMahon's avatar

Puck looked like it just bounced over the stick of Ollas. When things aren't going well, stuff like that tends to happen. Unfortunate for Ollas. He made a big save moments earlier.

UNH GOAL: Wildcats take a 2-0 lead with 8:03 left.

3rd period about to begin. Still 1-0

Mike McMahon's avatar

For a 1-0 game, this game has had plenty of excitement.

End of 2. Still 1-0 UNH.

Media timeout with 5:52 remaining in the 2nd.

UNH to the PP.

4:44 left in the first. Aside from the first 1:27 Merrimack has put together a decent period. Warriors outshooting the Wildcats 11-4.

John Gregory's avatar

At the end of the game handshakes Borek & the UMA assistant were jawing at each other - so you know what that was about?

Mike McMahon's avatar

Not sure ... could have been something about the hits. I did notice the same thing.

John Gregory's avatar

Did you see any replays on the hits that put them out? No penalties were called.

Mike McMahon's avatar

I did not. I'll probably take a look at that tomorrow for my weekend takeaways column.

Mike McMahon's avatar

13:00 left in the first still 1-0. Apologies for slow updates. Was finishing a hoops story.

Mike McMahon's avatar

UNH GOAL: Wildcats take a 1-0 lead just 1:27 into the game.

Mike McMahon's avatar

Merrimack and UNH are underway at the Whittemore Center.

Merrimack lost Ethan Bono and Mac Welsher in last night's game against UMass. Sounds like both were head injuries after hits.

Welcome to tonight's live coverage. As you saw in our pregame post, Merrimack is playing this game shorthanded. The Warriors don't have enough healthy players to dress a full lineup.
