Zachary Borgiel enters the transfer portal
Merrimack senior goaltender Zachary Borgiel entered the transfer portal on Monday.
Borgiel, 23, appeared in 16 games for the Warriors this season and posted a 3.26 GAA and an .890 save percentage. His best season at Merrimack was last 2022-23, when he appeared in 20 games and had a 2.08 GAA and .919 save percentage. In total, Borgiel appeared in 71 games over four seasons and had a career 2.82 GAA and .897 save percentage for the Warriors.
Borgiel's departure, combined with the New York Rangers signing Hugo Ollas on Friday, likely signals that the Warriors will look to the transfer portal for a goaltender.
Steven Bacovsky is currently slated to return. He'll be joined Max Lundgren. The 6-foot-4 Swedish goalie spent his freshman season on the sidelines due to an NCAA clearinghouse issue, but he will be eligible next season. Lundgren has the potential to be very good and could step into Ollas' role as a No. 1 or No. 1A goalie. Last season, he played 41 games for the Des Moines Buccaneers (USHL) and posted a 2.65 GAA and a .913 save percentage.
Lundgren's save percentage was sixth in the USHL last season, ahead of UMass freshman Michael Hrabal (.908) and Northeastern freshman Cameron Whitehead (.904).
